The Dead Weather Live - The Dead Weather Tour - The Dead Weather Jack White

The Dead Weather Live, Rock Coachella and Bonnaroo in their unique Grunge Blues. By all accounts The Dead Weather live rocked Day 2 at the Coachella music festival 2010. The delivered a high powered, if somewhat dark 14-song set The indie super group made up of the White Stripe’s Jack White playing drums, The Kills lead singer Alison Mosshart, Raconteurs bassist Jack Lawrence and the Queens of the Stone Age guitarist and keyboardist Dean Fertita was here to deliver and indeed they did.

White Stripes fans in the crowd were probably taken aback by the opening tune, a cover of “Forever My Queen” by Virginia doom-metal band Pentagram. It did give an indication of Jack White’s wide musical interest though.

The dark angry side fit in perfectly with Mosshart’s energy, this was The Dead Weather live and coming right at you. The Dead Weather finished their concert tour where they left off seducing the crowd at Bonnaroo 2010,

Hang You from the Heavens - The Dead Weather Jack White

The crowd really began to get into it three songs in with their debut single “Hang You from the Heavens” from 2009. Mosshart singing The Dead Weather Live does have certain intensity about it!

“I like to grab you by the hair
And drag you to the devil

I never know why I push you
Trash you just to confuse you
I make a hole just to see how
See through clean I can cut you

I like to grab you by the hair
And hang you up from the heavens

I'd like to grab you by the hair
And sell you off to the devil

I never know what mood you be
He might be kind but be cruel to me
I'm walking away now
One step forward and back three”

Jack White switched over the drums to Lawrence to play a duet with Alison Mosshart on Horehound’s closing track, “Will There Be Enough Water?” His Bluesy Gretsch guitar with whispering dueling vocals quietened the crowd before building back up to an intense close. This song was the highlight for many and a great way to bring the emotion levels way up.

They closed out with their second single off Horehound, “Treat me like your mother”. The song was appropriate as it was co-written by every member of the band and a great way to close out.

It brought me back to an interview Mosshart had with Mojo about the song collaboration of the Dead Weather;

"Everybody just did what they wanted. I wrote most of the lyrics because that's my favorite thing, and everybody wrote different parts to the music- someone would lead with something and I'd be writing furiously, and within an hour we'd have something good enough to record or work on. It was super-easy and super-quick."

That was the Dead Weather live “super easy and super quick”, well not really but who’s arguing?

You are quite a genius , and a self accomplished person. How fortunate I am to have friends with formidable mentalities. Your taste in music is probably a few generous notches above my comprehension. Interesting hub. God Bless you and all for whom you love and cherish.

Wow thank you for those complimments stars439, and the good wishes. I do have a bit of an eclectic taste in music - have loved music for as long as i rememember. A great place to go and relax. I like most genres but particuarly those that try something different and are more independant. Dead Weather are great musicians and try different things being from other bands and stepping outside of their comfort zone. If you like smokey blues you probably like the Dead Weather :)

This sort of music is not my cup of tea. Thank you though for the information.

No worries Dave - Granted it isn't for everyone

Nice write up billayandaustin!

I missed their Seattle show in March, and was completely disappointed!!

I'm sure we will get them to do more dates, so I'm waiting for that.

They do seem to collaborate quite well, as their work so far attests to. Of course, they aren't for everyone, but neither are The White Stripes, or for that matter... Jack White himself.

Nice Hub.

Thanks for the comments A.M. Gwynn - I am sorry you missed the Seattle show - there are still a few more dates then there is the next White Stripes album but this seems like the perfect match. I guess we see where The Kills go from here too. I wonder what his next project will be?
